TensorGrip: Go Surfing with a Reliable Bond
Our adhesives go into some pretty cool products. However, this example from Good Looking Wood is about as cool as it gets. Expert joiner Andy Tweed has sent in some snaps of his recent projects, including these custom surfboards. Using TensorGrip L12, Andy created an unbeatable bond in 3 simple steps.
Step 1
In the first step, Andy shows us how easy it is to get started with TensorGrip L12. The top joiner begins by applying the adhesive to both faces of the plywood, ensuring approximately 80-100% coverage.
At this stage, ensuring a top level of coverage is easy. TensorGrip L12 is dispersed via our revolutionary, high quality web spray adhesive, covering even more of the substrate in one spray movement.
Step 2
In the second stage of Andy’s project, he shows how to use bonding sticks like a boss. Bonding sticks can be made from many materials, including plastic and wood. In this case, our customer has opted for wood.
When using bonding sticks, it’s essential that you ensure a small contact area. This is why Andy has went for a cylindrical shape, as seen in the images above. These sticks effectively align the two opposing materials without them coming into contact with each other. Nifty!
Once the two pieces have been fully aligned, the bonding sticks are removed and pressure is then applied to the glue line. At this point, you can expect to be impressed with TensorGrip L12’s immediate grab, yielding an instant, lifetime bond.
Stage 3
Once the layers of plywood have been bonded, it’s time to trim, shape, sand, seal, paint and wax the surfboard. Once that’s taken care of, it’s time to hit the waves.
