Issues with Drooping Headlinings? We are here to help!

Where to next?

With the weather starting to heat up and our minds turning towards summer holidays the next query is always where are you planning on going? Now we all know the usual answer can vary dramatically from camping in the highlands or the Norfolk Broads, to holidays in far off exotic locations. For the more adventurous of us we may even venture towards Hawaii, however, the most important question has got to be what vehicle will this enterprise be accomplished in? The vast majority would answer confirming there is nothing wrong with a good old tent, however, this could be questionable if your camping in the Highlands.  If you like waking up soaking every morning then go for it, we’re not stopping you! However, if like the rest of us you like a bit more luxury a caravan is always a good option. With innovation moving in leaps and bounds in this sector you can literally have your choice from walking caravans to ones that are amphibious. Cue TopGear here, however, I’m sure none of these will sink unlike Richards Hammond’s unfortunate camping van!

In today’s blog we are going to talk about the main issues fabricators face and how our adhesives can solve this problem. We will also look at our top 3 innovative examples of what they can be used on. So why not join us on our camping adventure, we promise not to blow any up unlike Jeremy Clarkson!

So how does this all connect?

So, I here you ask how does any of this connect with adhesive! Well the answer to this is our adhesives are used to bond the headliners, it is often a composite material that is attached to the roof of your vehicle or yachts. It gives the roof a nice finish, dampens the noise and keeps the cold out.

The main issue for fabricators is that the headlinings start to sag and droop in the middle when it gets hot, because they tend to use standard rated adhesives which are only rated up to around 90C.

The sagging occurs because the condition of the glue that holds the backing deteriorates over time. Heat, humidity, and time rapidly degrade the bond that the polyurethane foam has with the face fabric.  As the foam oxidizes and yellows, the fabric-foam bond fails.

Here is our Solution!

So what is our solution to this problem? We suggest using a high temperature adhesive such as TensorGrip - T51 - High Temp Re-Trimming Spray Adhesive.

This adhesive is an airless spray adhesive delivery system with minimal overspray, ideal for applying in overhead, vertical and horizontal operations. This product is ideal for fabrics, leathers, carpeting, linoleum, HPL, foam, GRP, plastics and many other typical vehicle interior finishes. TensorGrip T51 has good grab and green strength, and cured bonds have good temperature resistance to over 126°C.

The main advantages are:

  • Fast, high tack
  • Excellent room temperature bonds
  • Heat resistant up to 126°C
  • Fast drying with good open time
  • Excellent bond adhesion for fabrics, leather, carpet, foam, etc. to metal, hard plastic, plywood, etc
  • Airless spray

Due to the innovation of our products as you can see you will never have cause to worry about your headlining’s again. With innovation happening so quickly throughout the transportation industry we wanted to have a look at what is the latest in the mobile home industry. You will be surprised at what unique mobile homes are now available.

The latest in mobile-homes Innovation

Meet N55, the Walking House! No its not R2-D2 younger brother but the latest in modular concept in modern living. The N55 has been designed as a new concept of living, but with legs that will allow it to amble peacefully throughout the countryside. The artist who came up with the concept has hopes that their walking house will challenge current thinking on land ownership and nomadic life.

Next up in true TopGear style is an amphibious caravan called Sealander, now who wouldn’t want a caravan that turns into a boat. Admittedly it’s not exactly luxurious, but it has a removable roof.  So if being able to go on a leisurely cruise and afterwards camp under the stars this is definitely the motorhome for you.
