How does the canister adhesive system work?

Have you ever wondered what makes the canister adhesive system so much faster, cleaner and more efficient than traditional methods of applying adhesive?

Snapshots of tensor adhesives

A standard drum of adhesive liquid contains approximately 14-18% adhesive solids and 72-76% solvent. As we all know, if this solution is applied to a substrate directly it becomes messy, cumbersome and often bleeds through the substrate or runs over the edges. Alternatively using a pressurised gun with an attached air compressor allows you to spray an even coating of the adhesive onto your substrate. However, you then face the issue of having to constantly refill and clean the gun, plus you can’t take it on location as you can’t transport the large air compressor needed to operate the gun. On top of all of this, no matter which option you choose, dry time can take up to several days before your product is ready for its next stage.

Leaky Adhesive

If that sounds cumbersome to you, you are not alone!  An immense amount of money, time and research has been dedicated to improving this process. The results?  A canister based adhesive. Admittedly, early versions of the canister system had their flaws but modern technology has now enabled us to produce a canister system that is faster, more efficient, cleaner, portable and dries faster than ever before.

Here’s how: by totally enclosing the adhesive in a pressurised, airtight containment vessel, we can significantly reduce the amount of solvent required to be mix into the adhesive, this in turn means that we can pack over two and a half times the amount of adhesive into one of our small 22 litre canisters as you would get from a standard 20 litre drum of liquid adhesive.

2.5 Drums = 1 canister

Inside the canister we also pack all the gas propellant that you will need for that specific amount of adhesive which means that you are no longer reliant on an air compressor and suddenly you can take your adhesive almost anywhere with you. Attach to that an airtight hose and a gun that regulates the amount of adhesive that is applied to your substrate and you are left with a system that is cleaner, faster, and smarter. A system that enables you to apply your adhesive more efficiently to ensure no leakage, dripping or wastage and a system that enables you to use every single drop of adhesive contained within the canister.

In the end, all these benefits add up to give you the best bond in the most efficient way and that means you save time, money and wastage. And who doesn’t like that?
