Come take a cruise with us!

Today we are talking Marine! With the JEC show in March edging ever closer, Quin Global would like to invite you on board with us, hosting a raft of applications!

Now, who doesn’t enjoy a sailing expedition, especially with such a variety of boating styles to choose from such as the casual man-powered pedal boat. Or perhaps a cruise is more to your taste on one of the extensive ranges of recreational boats available today such as yachts, cruise liners and jet boats, there is always something to suit everyone.

When I think of boating the first image that comes to mind is that moment when you are sitting in the fishing boat in the middle of the ocean hearing nothing but the lapping of the waves on the boat, the screech of seagulls waiting for their first bit of scraps and your line bobbing about waiting for that first exciting bite. It’s that simple companionship with my father that will be with me forever and been so excited to be able to take our catch home to have for tea. With so many options open to people today, water-based activities are a growing popularity worldwide attracting millions of people. Whether it’s taking a leisurely jaunt down a river in a paddle boat or rowing boat, or catching a ferry and having the pleasure of travelling in comfort with the option of taking a stroll and enjoying the picturesque view from the top? Or, are you out for a fun-filled crazy jet boat ride in choppy waters, experiencing whirlpools and ending up coming back soaking wet. Whatever your preference what’s holding together your choice of vessel is extremely important.

Why not join us in today’s blog where we are going to look at some of the largest cruise liners in the world and where our adhesives come to all of this. Join us on our seafaring adventure.

Construction

So, how are these carefully crafted ships constructed? Boat frames are either solid or peripheral. These robust frames are made from Wood, Plywood, Steel, Aluminium or composite materials. Ship construction is a complicated art that takes careful planning, time and testing.

In the construction and assembling process, moulding adhesives are designed to unite with the matrix of a fibreglass boat hull, furnishing boat manufacturers with a result that’s second to none! One requirement when it comes to manufacturers is passenger’s protection from the wind, rain and noise associated with boating experiences. As most people will agree, successful boat manufacturing provides passengers with the necessary protection as they apply contact and pressure sensitive adhesives to create sturdy insulation bonds. Vinyls, fabrics, leather, aluminium, the list of materials goes on! Everything that creates successful headliners are made with strong, reliable adhesives. A lot of effort goes in to ensure the interiors of boats are strong, withstanding and provide necessary comfort for all passengers, such as seating, flooring and furniture creation.

So where does all our adhesive come into this?

Our marine interior range of adhesives formulations are designed specifically for the marine interior industry in mind. When on a yacht or cruise liner where do you sit to enjoy the view or sleep the night away while been rocked gently from side to side?   Our adhesives are used to cover all types of upholstery, seating, wall coverings as well as flooring for boat/yacht interior applications.

So what makes it so special? Here are a few of the main highlights:

  • Fast Dry
  • High Temperature Resistance
  • Portable System
  • No need for external compressor
  • Easy Application Control

Its developed with an exceptional high tack and long open time making it suitable for bonding a variety of materials including carpet, foams and fabrics and many other uses. Its aggressive high tack allows for single-sided bonded in low demand upholstery seating areas for seat backs and bases. Contact adhesive creates a tough resilient bond line between decorative laminate materials and wood substrates in the marine industry.

The incredible tack and compatibility with polystyrene makes this the perfect partner when bonding blocks of polystyrene together or to the sub-deck.

One product, the M38 which is a high-performance plasticiser resistant adhesive is unique due to its capability to bond foams and fabric single sided when in conjunction with nip rollers. It will also bond vinyl, rubber, leathers and plastics, as in the past this was not possible because of the leeching plasticisers migrating from the vinyl’s causing delamination.

As you can see there are many uses for our adhesives in the marine industry and as such we decided to take a look at what these boats/cruise liners can look like when completed. Why not join us in looking at what it would be like to go on a cruise on 3 of the largest cruise liners in the world.

Take a cruise on one of these!

MS Symphony of the Seas

This is the largest passenger ship to be ever constructed with a gross tonnage of 228,021 GRT and is scheduled to enter service on March 2018 Facilities will include a children's water park, a full-size basketball court, ice-skating rink, and two 43-foot rock-climbing walls.  One of the most technically innovative ships to date and has introduced two mixologists. The bar is run by bionic mixologists and you submit our order and watch while the bionic bartenders shake up your drink in just a minute. the Ultimate Abyss – world’s tallest slide at sea.  It has a passenger capacity of 5,494.

MS Harmony of the Seas

This is the second largest cruise ship ever built and has a gross tonnage of 226,963 GT. It has many amenities such as the "Ultimate Abyss" dry slide at the stern of the ship and the "Perfect Storm" water slide.

Harmony of the Seas is 20% more energy efficient than her sister ships Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. Small air bubbles from the keel reduce dragg and thus fuel consumption by 7-8%, and a smooth hull surface further reduces resistance. The bubble system also reduces propeller noise, and is used on celebrity reflection and Quantum of the Seas. LED and fluorescent lamps replace incandescent light bulbs, reducing power consumption and need for air conditioning. It has a passenger capacity of 4,479 guests.

MS Allure of the Seas

This is our last cruise ship which has a gross tonnage of 225,282.

The ship was formally named by her godmother, the fictional character Princess Fiona, in a ceremony on 28 November 2010.

The ship features a two-deck dance hall, a theatre with 1,380 seats, an ice skating rink, 7 distinct "neighborhoods", and 25 dining options, including a Starbucks coffee shop at sea. Many of the ship's interiors were extensively decorated by muralist Clarissa Parish. It has a passenger capacity of 5,400.

Now that is what I call luxury, what would you say is your favourite?
